How safe are Smile Science Harley Street teeth whitening products?
Our key whitening agent Sodium Percarbonate has been formulated by industry renowned dentist Dr Martin Giniger to effectively whiten teeth without sensitivity or harm to oral health. The formulations are free from ingredients carbamide peroxide, PEG, Phthalates, Carrageenan, Toluene, and Triclosan known to adversely impact the health of your teeth and gums.
Permanent tooth damage can be caused as a result of harmful ingredients used in some competitor home whitening products but not our teeth whitening kits. Hydrogen Peroxide is the most frequent cause of unwanted side effects and is the main whitening agent in many forms of teeth whitening. Some products like Crest strips (made by Colgate), are not allowed to be sold in the UK due to the high levels of hydrogen peroxide found in them.
Is whitening your teeth everyday safe?
Research has shown that safety is one of the top concerns when it comes to daily teeth whitening, which is why we’ve ensured that our products do not include harmful ingredients you may see in other daily teeth whitening products such as carbamide peroxide. Even so, you might still ask yourself, should you whiten your teeth everyday? If you use our daily teeth whitening products, the answer is yes, you can safely whiten teeth everyday.
Not only do our daily teeth whitening products avoid harsh abrasive chemicals, but our range also includes natural agents such as charcoal, known to result in natural whitening of the teeth. Oral hygiene products in the UK subscribe to stricter standards than other parts of the world like the US. For example, Hydrogen peroxide can be used in concentrations as high as 6% oversees, but here in the UK oral hygiene products must not contain more than 0.1% Hydrogen Peroxide. This ensures that the whitening effects of daily whitening products do not affect your health and are 100% safe to use every day.
How does the formula whiten teeth?
The key active whitening ingredient Sodium Percarbonate creates the chemical degradation of stains through oxidisation to produce a whitening effect. It does this by diffusing through enamel and dentine, breaking double bonds of pigment molecules and changing the pigment molecule configuration and/or size. Such changes alter the optical properties of tooth structure, creating a whiter tooth colour.
The enamel is not damaged during the whitening process. Therefore, the tooth can continue to protect the nerve whilst being effectively whitened with no sensitivity.

Can teeth whitening be used on artificial teeth?
Whitening is only effective on natural teeth as veneers, caps, implants, bonding or bridges aren’t designed to be whitened. However, our Sodium Percarbonate whitening formula oxidises stains on natural teeth and this helps your natural teeth to maintain the same shade as the artificial ones.
Artificial teeth can be whitened before they are installed but not after, porcelain teeth are more stain resistant, but we do advise you to check if teeth whitening is suitable for you with your dentist.
Why use Sodium Percarbonate versus Hydrogen Peroxide?
Dr Martin Giniger has used over 40 years of research to identify the optimal formulation to safely and effectively whiten teeth without any unwanted side-effects. Yes, hydrogen peroxide is extremely effective in teeth whitening. However, many countries have deemed this as harmful for individual use and have banned teeth whitening products containing peroxide levels over 0.1%. You can brush your teeth gently immediately after using the whitening strips, but we do not recommend brushing your teeth immediately before application, because this may irritate your gums. Make sure to allow enough time to pass if brushing your teeth prior to application to help avoid gum irritation.
The strips are designed to work without rinsing or brushing off product after application.
There is no evidence that the strips are harmful to use when pregnant or nursing. However, we recommend avoiding using the Strips or consulting with your doctor before use.
Smile Science Harley Street teeth whitening strips will not harm dental work including veneers, caps, fillings, partials, gold, composite bonding, laminates or any other restorations. However, they will also not whiten these types of dental work. The strips only work to whiten natural teeth.
Do not use if you have dental braces, and we recommend speaking to your dentist before using the strips if you wear a retainer or have had a root canal. If you need any dental work, have dental work or are experiencing any staining from medication, we advise consulting your dentist to determine if using the strips is appropriate.
Teeth Whitening Pen
The Smile Science Harley Street Teeth Whitening Pen only contains ingredients that are proven safe for your enamel. We do not use any harsh abrasive ingredients in our Whitening Pens.
Our Teeth Whitening Pen has been designed with sensitivity in mind to ensure a powerful whitening experience without the risk of sensitivity.
The Teeth Whitening Pen, when used as instructed, should not cause any issues with sensitivity. If you do experience some sensitivity while using the Pen, just skip your next application to let the sensitivity subside. You can also try using less gel when applying to your teeth.
We do not recommend ingesting any of the whitening gel but you should not experience any ill effects if a small amount is ingested.
Our Teeth Whitening Pens will only whiten real, natural teeth. They have not been formulated to whiten dental work. Although our Teeth Whitening Pens are completely safe and will not damage your dental work.
Charcoal Teeth Whitening Powder
If you get SSHS charcoal teeth whitening powder in your eyes, please wash thoroughly with water. Consult your GP if you get any irritation. Please note this product is not meant for ingestion.
Use twice daily to give you a brighter smile and to target deep stains, for long term whitening effects. This product has been certified as safe to use twice daily and continually as a regular toothpaste.
In most cases, you should see noticeable results after one week of regular use. During this period, charcoal should help remove exterior stains/discolouration from the surface of your teeth caused by different foods and drinks (like red wine) without altering your tooth enamel.
Absolutely! While formulating our activated charcoal powder, it was one of our top priorities that our powder wasn’t only effective, but also gentle and safe for everyday use and enamel safety.

Dental Cleaning & Whitening Foam
Follow instructions attached with the foam packaging, brush your teeth with one pump of the cleaner and brush for one minute to ensure clean teeth, free from various food particles and other harmful bacteria. Repeat this process with the whitening foam for a brighter, whiter smile.
We also have the option of toothpaste tablets or the more traditional and familiar teeth whitening toothpaste.
Yes, the formulations were developed for everyday use up to three times a day.

No, you can use the whitening foam immediately after the dental cleaning foam.
We advise to only use it continuously for 3 weeks every 6 months.
You should avoid food and drink for at least 15 minutes after using the Smile Science Harley Street whitening foam.
Vita-White Toothpaste
You can use our Vita-White toothpaste in place of your regular toothpaste, however, it doesn’t contain fluoride which helps to prevent tooth decay. The Vita-White toothpaste contains everything you need to protect against all of the most common dental issues, along with whitening your teeth.
You can use this toothpaste twice daily, morning and night.
We recommend using our toothpaste as part of your usual oral care regime, both during and after your 10-day whitening course to enhance and maintain whitening results.
Our Vita-White toothpaste contains the active whitening ingredient Sodium Percarbonate, the same as all of our other whitening products. If you are looking to primarily whiten your teeth by a few shades, we would advise starting with our whitening strips or whitening kit and then using our toothpaste for whitening teeth to upkeep your pearly whites.
This product contains vitamin A. Use of this product is not recommended in pregnancy or by women considering pregnancy.

Yes. The Toothpaste Tablets have been formulated to replace traditional toothpaste tubes with all the same oral care benefits.
Yes our tablets are a hundred percent suitable to be used with an electric toothbrush. Just use the electric toothbrush as normal. However with the tablets you just chew for five seconds before you place the wet toothbrush on the teeth. The water from the brush converts the tablet into a paste in your mouth.
Fluoride is the key ingredient to prevent tooth decay.
