Extended Whitening Treatment — Deeper Results Over a Full Course

For users who want the strongest results achievable through whitening strips, the 28 Day Teeth Whitening Strips deliver a comprehensive, extended whitening treatment over a full four-week course. With 56 strips included — 28 upper arch and 28 lower arch — this is the most complete strip-based whitening option in the Smile Science range.

Where shorter courses deliver a quick visible boost, the 28-day course works progressively — each daily session building on the last to address deeper staining and deliver a more even, comprehensive improvement over time. By the end of the course, most users with established dietary staining see the most noticeable strip-based result available at home.

Developed by the dental professional behind Colgate Total and Philips Zoom, the formula uses the same enamel-friendly, sensitive-tooth-compatible gel as the rest of the Smile Science strips range — no carbamide peroxide, no gum irritation, and advanced mould technology for consistent daily coverage. See how it compares against other leading brands in our roundup of the best teeth whitening strips UK shoppers can buy.

How They Work

Each strip is coated with a whitening gel that adheres directly to the tooth surface, holding the active ingredient in consistent contact with the enamel throughout the 30-minute daily session. The elastic gel consistency and advanced mould technology ensure even coverage across all visible teeth — maximising the contact between the active ingredient and the enamel surface for more consistent results across the full treatment period. What makes the 28-day course different is the cumulative effect. While a 7-day course delivers a concentrated initial boost and the 14-day course provides balanced progressive whitening, the 28-day course allows the active ingredient to work progressively over a longer period — gradually addressing staining at greater depth and delivering a more comprehensive improvement in overall tooth shade. This is particularly relevant for users with older, more established staining where a shorter course alone may not deliver the full extent of achievable results.

Why These Teeth Whitening Strips Are Different

The same formulation expertise that makes the shorter strip courses effective applies equally here — with the added benefit of an extended treatment period. Elastic gel consistency — ensures the gel maintains full contact with the tooth surface throughout each 30-minute session, rather than slipping or partially detaching as lower-quality strips can. Advanced mould technology — the strip conforms closely to individual tooth surfaces for consistent gel coverage across all visible teeth from the first session to the last. Developed for sensitive teeth — no carbamide peroxide. The enamel-friendly formula is designed to whiten effectively over a prolonged course without the gum irritation or sensitivity that extended use of harsher formulas can cause.Progressive building effect — each daily session builds on the last, meaning the whitening effect compounds across the full 28 days rather than plateauing quickly as some shorter courses do.

Who are the 28 day teeth whitening strips For?

Best For

  • Users with more established or deeper dietary staining — from coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, or years of gradual accumulation
  • Those committed to a longer-form whitening routine who want the most comprehensive strip-based result
  • Users who have used shorter courses and want to take results further
  • Anyone who prefers gradual, progressive teeth whitening strips results over faster, more intensive methods
  • Sensitive teeth users who want strong results achieved through a gentler, lower-intensity daily approach rather than a high-powered treatment

Not Ideal For

  • Users wanting results quickly — the 7-day strips or LED Whitening Kit are more appropriate for fast results
  • Light or recent staining — a 14-day course is sufficient and more practical for most everyday staining
  • First-time whiteners with moderate staining — the 14-day course or LED kit is a better starting point
  • Users with dental braces — strips are not suitable for use with braces

Tips for Best Results

Most users find the routine easy to sustain once established — 30 minutes per day, applied before bed, fits naturally into an evening routine. The gradual improvement that builds throughout the course is motivating to continue. Users who track their progress by noting shade improvements each week tend to find consistency easier to maintain.

01

Commit to the Course

Commit to the full 28 days — the most significant results typically emerge in the second and third weeks as the cumulative whitening effect builds. Avoid coffee, tea, red wine, and heavily pigmented foods during treatment where possible — these directly counteract each session’s progress.
02

Support and Sustain

Use a whitening toothpaste alongside the strips throughout the course to support daily stain prevention between sessions. Begin a full daily maintenance routine immediately after the course ends — starting maintenance when teeth are at their brightest is the most effective time to begin.

What to Expect — Week by Week

Week 1: Initial whitening begins as the active ingredient starts to break down surface stain deposits. Most users notice some brightening by the end of the first week, though the most visible change comes later. Week 2: The whitening effect begins to compound. Surface staining is increasingly addressed and deeper stain compounds begin to respond to the consistent daily treatment. A clear improvement in overall brightness is typically visible by the end of week two. Week 3: Results become more pronounced. Tooth shade continues to improve as the extended course works on staining that shorter courses may not fully address. The more even distribution of whitening across all treated teeth typically becomes apparent. Week 4: The final week brings the full cumulative effect of the course to its conclusion. Most users with established dietary staining see the most significant overall improvement by the end of the 28-day period.

After Treatment — Sustaining Your Results

After a full 28-day course, results represent a meaningful improvement from the starting point — sustaining them through a consistent maintenance routine is the most important next step. Beginning maintenance immediately after the course ends — rather than weeks later when fading has already begun — is the most effective strategy.

For periodic top-ups between full courses, the 7-day strips provide a practical shorter option. For the fastest top-up treatment, the LED Whitening Kit or Refill Kit delivers results within 7–10 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will 28-day strips give me better results than 14-day strips? For users with moderate to established staining, yes — the extended course allows the whitening effect to build progressively and address staining at greater depth than a shorter course. For light or fresh staining, a 14-day course is typically sufficient. The 28-day strips deliver the strongest overall whitening effect achievable through strips alone.
Is a 28-day course safe for my enamel? Yes — when used as directed. The formula is specifically developed to be enamel-friendly and gentle enough for a full extended course without damaging tooth structure. Follow the recommended application guidance and avoid overuse beyond the stated course.
Will I experience sensitivity over 28 days? The formula contains no carbamide peroxide and is developed for sensitive teeth. Most users complete the full course without significant sensitivity. If sensitivity occurs at any point, take a rest day and resume when it subsides. Using less gel per application can also help if sensitivity is a concern.
Can I take breaks during the 28-day course? Yes — occasional rest days will not ruin the course. If sensitivity occurs or the routine is disrupted, simply resume where you left off. For best results, aim for as many consecutive daily sessions as possible.
Can I use the 28-day strips alongside other whitening products? Avoid running other whitening treatment products simultaneously — for example, don’t use the LED Whitening Kit and the 28-day strips at the same time. Daily maintenance products (toothpaste, whitening foam, PAP powder) can be used alongside the strips throughout the course.
How often should I repeat a 28-day course? We recommend waiting at least 6–8 weeks after completing a 28-day course before starting another. In between, daily maintenance products help sustain results and reduce how much improvement is needed each time.
Should I brush before or after applying the strips? Do not brush immediately before applying — wait at least 30 minutes after brushing to reduce the risk of gum irritation. You can brush gently immediately after removing the strips if preferred, though this is not required as the strips are designed to work without immediate rinsing.
Can I use these strips if I have veneers, crowns, or fillings? These strips will not damage dental restorations. However, like all whitening products, they only affect natural teeth — crowns, veneers, and fillings will remain their original shade. Do not use with dental braces.

Important tips

  • Regular use of our peroxide free whitening strips will keep your teeth whiter and brighter.
  • We recommend whitening strips to be applied regularly every three months for an effective aftercare solution, however you do not need to follow a full week regime as you had initially.
  • Avoid or limit consumption of tobacco, coffee, tea, cola and red wine. Additionally use a whitening toothpaste which will help guard against foods which cause staining such as curries, tomato based foods like pasta and other pigmented foodstuffs known to cause organic stains to tooth surfaces.
